Tata Power Solar, one of the largest solar manufacturers in India, today announced that its crystalline PV modules have successfully passed the Potential Induced Degradation (PID) test conducted by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a premier global independent safety science company.
UL, the world leader in product safety testing and certification, subjected Tata Power Solar’s PV modules to some of the harshest PID-test conditions in the industry:
Results showed less than 1% degradation in the modules, while the accepted level is between 4 and 5%. The strong performance of Tata Power Solar’s modules under such extreme conditions showcases the superior quality and reliability of its products.
Commenting on the certification, Ajay Goel, CEO, Tata Power Solar said, “As one of the oldest solar manufacturers in the world, we have exported more than 500MW of modules world-wide over last 25 years. This latest PID-free certification from UL is a testament to our commitment to producing high-quality solar modules that set the standard as best in the world.”
Suresh Sugavanam, Managing Director, UL India said, “Our test program evaluates the modules’ performance against system voltage stress, verify module safety and screen for PID susceptibility. Tata Power Solar’s modules have produced excellent results proving that they are not susceptible to PID thereby classifying them as among the best in the solar industry.”
UL is a world leader in product safety testing and certification with several photovoltaic programs and certification procedures to test both national and international standards. The PID test assesses solar modules’ susceptibility or resistance to power losses due to high voltages, temperatures and humidity.
Tata Power Solar (TPS) is India’s leading solar manufacturer and the largest specialised EPC player, with 25 years of deep domain expertise in the Indian solar industry. Founded in 1989, the company was originally formed as a joint venture between Tata Power and British Petroleum Solar (BP Solar). As a pioneer and market leader in the solar space, headquartered in Bangalore, TPS now operates independently as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power. TPS has a strong national presence with 8 regional offices, 40 authorized service centres plus a network of more than 1000 dealers and sub dealers nationwide.
As one of the largest solar manufacturers in India, TPS operates three world-class manufacturing units in Bangalore, with a production capacity of 200MW of module and 180MW of active cell. It has completed more than 93.65 MW of ground-mount utility scale and 14.22 MW of rooftop and distributed generation projects across the country as of FY13. It also offers a diverse line of solar products for both urban and rural markets – these include water heaters, home lighting, street lighting, power packs, and water pumps among others. TPS is committed to enable solar everywhere and aims to provide energy access to millions of people across the country via its integrated solar solutions.
