Tata Power Solar Systems commissions a unique BIPV system of 19.52 Kw for FESTO

System gives dual benefits to the office building by reducing heat and providing solar power 


About FESTO 

FESTO is a leading German world-wide supplier of factory and process automation technology and the performance leader in industrial training and education programs for over 300,000 customers, in more than 200 industries worldwide. They were looking to invest in clean green energy in their Indian facilities, and partnered with Tata Power Solar to integrate solar power in their energy mix. 

Project Highlights

FESTO had two objectives when they were looking at green energy, namely – power the office premises with renewable energy and reduce the usage of energy for cooling the building during summers. 

Tata Power Solar proposed a Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system, which would generate the required solar energy to power their office and also cut-off direct sun light from hitting the building, thus keeping it cool during summers. 

A first of its kind BIPV system was commissioned for FESTO, with:

Specially made Stainless Steel structures: 
Exclusively specially made stainless steel structures were used on the south facing façade of the building to mount the panels, thus protecting the building from direct sunlight  
The structures were fitted at the time of building construction, with support from design consultants to ensure the aesthetic design requirements were met as well as making the building picturesque 
To maximise energy generation tilt was incorporated in the structures. 

Customer Benefits
  • Reduction of heat in the building due to the shadowing benefits provided by the panels, helped in reducing the energy required for cooling the building
  • In addition to normal load, the computer and lighting load was also powered by solar power
  • Since a battery based system was implemented, which had 2 days back up of power , a separate UPS was not required for computer and other applications.
